Was it destiny?!

 Destiny!

1996 April I became self employed by starting Manhunt Consultants, a Recruitment Consultancy. As I couldn’t get a job when I wanted one, I got into the business of finding jobs for others! And the very fact that after 27 years I’m still running it proves that I was successful in that!

Well to get back to the main story (!) just 4 months later I heard that a new MNC was recruiting large number of staff at all levels and especially in Sales and Marketing as they have to start operations.

I had 15 of sales and marketing experience in FMCG industry prior to becoming self employed.

As I became self employed out of compulsion and not because I wanted to, I sent in my resume to them and was promptly called for an interview.

On the interview day I got out of my office (which was bang in the center of Ameerpet X Roads) at 10-45 AM to attend the interview at 11 AM in Grand Kakatiya Hotel where the MNC took one whole floor to kick start their operations.

As I took my bike off stand, I realized that I had a flat and got panicky! In those days there were fewer Autos and 2/3 came but with passengers and my panic level went up by few notches! An empty Auto appeared but when I told him the destination which is just about 1 KM he refused and drove off. Panic was touching 10!

Then saw another empty auto coming and I just stood in its way and when he stopped sat in the back seat and told him to go to Grand Kakatiya and as he was about to protest told him I would pay Rs.25 which was a huge amount back then! He agreed and I reached the hotel at 11.

I found out their floor which was 13th (bad omen?!) and wondering that I couldn’t see that many floors from outside got into the lift and realized that the floor numbers started from 10!

And as I got out of the lift saw a Foreigner and I just murmured “Arun, Interview etc.,” He looked at his watch and said “Mr. Arun you are supposed to meet me at 11 AM. 11 is 11 NOT 11-05! Sorry I can’t see you”

Crestfallen I walked out in slow motion and I don’t remember how I reached my office.

Was it destiny that caused the puncture and redirected my life totally in another direction?

Sometimes I wonder how my life would’ve been if only I got into that company!

PS: I have neither applied for jobs nor got any interview calls thereafter!
