Today morning while going to airport a middle aged person asked me for a lift at the entrance to the PVNR Expressway at Mehdipatnam.
As I was alone in the car I stopped and he got in. Incidentally there were 2 other youngsters too but they were busy with their mobiles:)
I was listening to "Kanakadhara Stotram" sung by MS Subbulakshmi on my mobile when he got in.
He listened for a few minutes and asked me about it as obviously he never heard it before. I explained how Adi Sankaracharya composed this impromptu when an old brahmin lady could offer him only an amla fruit and told him that I listen to it whenever I travel alone in my car and its relaxing. He agreed.
Then he told me that he has CDs of MS Subbulakshmi's Suprabhatam & Vishnu Sahasranamam, MS Rama Rao's Sundara Kanda, Siva Stotram by SP Balasubrahmanyam etc and he listens to them regularly. He said their voices are divine and if he listens to them in the morning its like taking a tablet for BP and he can go through a 12 hour work day. I nodded in agreement.
Immediately after the flyover ended he wanted to get down as he is going to Kurnool and RTC buses stop there. I stopped and as he got out and closing the door casually asked his name.
He said "Sir my name is Jeelani and I'm a Muslim" and waved good bye with a big smile.
